Planning EV charging: five questions before requesting equipment
Mingkong · Updated
A charging project starts with how the site will be used. A useful enquiry describes the vehicles, available supply and operating expectations alongside the equipment. You can begin while some details remain open.
Who will charge, and when?
Describe whether the site serves employees, visitors, residents, a fleet or public users. Include the expected parking or charging periods and the number of vehicles that may need to charge at the same time. A fleet schedule and a visitor parking area can lead to different equipment discussions.
What is known about the electrical supply?
Provide the available information about site voltage, frequency, distribution equipment and capacity. Share an existing electrical drawing if one is available. Identify the person or team responsible for reviewing the supply. A new transformer is only part of the scope where the site assessment calls for one.
Which vehicle interfaces and operating platform are required?
Include the vehicle types and required connector or charging standard where known. State whether there is an existing operating platform, access-control arrangement or payment requirement. Confirm the protocol and version required by that platform; a connector description alone does not establish complete compatibility.
How will the equipment be installed?
Describe the available mounting positions, parking layout, cable routes and site conditions. Identify whether civil works, upstream electrical equipment, communications or commissioning are covered by your own contractors or need to be discussed as part of a defined package.
What must be confirmed before ordering?
Review the selected equipment configuration, included accessories, interfaces, documents, delivery destination and target timing together. List any project-specific regulatory or certification requirements for confirmation. Keep the approved configuration and drawing references with the order documents.
Use the charging site brief to organise the information you already have, or send a site requirement.
Browse AC and DC charging equipment to identify the product range for your site requirement.
